Lisa Baker Announces Candidacy for Glendale City Council, Barrel District

Glendale community leader, business advocate, and longtime volunteer Lisa Baker today announced her candidacy for the Glendale City Council representing the Barrel District, bringing with her nearly a decade of service, leadership, and commitment to the city she has called home her entire life.

Since 2017, Baker has served on the Community Development Advisory Committee (CDAC), where she has played a key role in recommending the allocation of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds to nonprofit organizations supporting housing, homelessness services, seniors, at-risk youth, park revitalization, and historic preservation. Baker has served as Committee Chair since 2020 and will continue in this role through 2026.

Her leadership experience also includes serving on three Citizen Bond Election Committees—as Vice Chair in 2019, Chair in 2021, and Vice Chair again in 2025. Through these roles, Baker gained deep insight into Glendale’s long-term capital needs, the bond and budgeting process, and the city’s Capital Improvement Plan (CIP).

Beyond city government, Baker has been an active member of the Glendale Chamber of Commerce since 2017. She has served on the Public Policy Committee, on the Board of Directors, as the 2024 Board Chair, and most recently as the Interim President & CEO. Her work with the Chamber has strengthened partnerships with local businesses and reinforced her belief in responsible growth and a thriving economic environment.

“As an Arizona native and long-time Glendale resident, I am deeply invested in the future of this community,” Baker said. “I’ve had the privilege of serving Glendale from many angles — public service, business leadership, and community engagement. I’m running for City Council because our neighborhoods deserve strong, steady leadership that listens, acts, and puts residents first.”

Baker’s campaign will focus on maintaining infrastructure, providing high-quality essential services, supporting both small and large businesses, and ensuring transparent, accountable governance. She aims to bring her extensive experience to the Council to strengthen the city’s future while preserving the unique character of the Barrel District.

Outside of public service, Baker is a Global Real Estate Advisor with Russ Lyon Sotheby’s International Realty. She is also an active community member, serving with organizations such as the Glendale Women’s Club, Glendale Arizona Historical Society, and the Citizens Police Academy Alumni of Glendale. From 2020 to 2023, she authored a monthly real estate column for The Glendale Star and Peoria Times.

“Glendale is more than where I live — it’s where I serve, where I work, and where my family thrives,” Baker said. “I look forward to meeting with residents across the Barrel District and working together for a strong and vibrant Glendale.”
